On December 1, 2020 WKLH Mornings with Dave Luczak will host Giving Tuesday: A Holiday of Miracles, a 12 hour radiothon event raising critical funds to help ensure kids and families throughout the state receive the best possible care. This 12 hour radiothon event will showcase remarkable stories of hope and healing told by parents, patients and care provides. Miracle Moments brought to you by Kohl’s Meet a few of our miracles whose stories will be shared on-air Katey Katey found her dream career when she was 5 years old. Diagnosed with Wilms tumor, a common form of kidney cancer, Katey underwent surgery and seven months of chemotherapy at Children’s Wisconsin. Just a few months ago, Katey, now 23, was back at Children’s Wisconsin, but this time as a nurse in the MACC Fund Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders. Ellie In the fall of 2019, Ellie was about to head off to college when her life took an expected turn. She was diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome, a blood disorder similar to leukemia. Ellie had a bone marrow transplant and spent Thanksgiving, Christmas and her birthday in the hospital. In elementary school, she struggled with low self-esteem and some family issues were very hard on her. Having Bethany Bojcic, a licensed clinical social worker available to offer support right at school made a positive and profound impact on her life. Born with several rare birth defects, Asher sadly passed away a few months shy of his second birthday. Ysabel Ysabel’s journey began before birth in the Fetal Concerns Center, after it was learned that she was developing with some of her organs outside of her body. She was born in the midst of the pandemic and cared for in Children’s NICU. Born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS), a rare and serious defect in which the left side of the heart doesn’t form correctly, Olivia spent the first 115 days of her life in our cardiac intensive care unit, including her first Thanksgiving and Christmas. Now 17, Carson has undergone countless surgeries and rehabilitation, along with ongoing mental health care. Carson and his mom Amber wants other families to know how important it is to talk about mental and emotional health. Watch Carson’s Story on YouTube . Last fall, Raynah , then 11, was suffering from a mild headache, fever and strep throat, so she stayed home from school. Her mom, an intensive care nurse, came in her room to check on her, and Raynah was sitting frozen on her bed unable to walk or talk. Her mom feared she’d had a stroke. Raynah was transported to Children’s Wisconsin, where doctors diagnosed her with a rare and potentially catastrophic brain infection. Raynah spent 46 days in the hospital. When she was a baby, Rylann’s parents noticed she didn’t always react to sounds around her — like barking dogs and banging pans. Rylann was tested and found to have profound hearing loss. One day after her first birthday, she had cochlear implant surgery in both ears. The surgery was successful, and she has continued to thrive thanks to the ongoing care provided her entire family by the Masters Family Speech and Hearing Center. Each round required long inpatient stays, and he spent a total of 153 days in the hospital.
